There are two Latin Catholic cemeteries in the district of Nicosia: the old one is in the buffer zone in Nicosia, towards the Agios Dometios area, and the new one is in the Tseri area by the Nicosia-Larnaca-Limassol highway.
The new Latin Catholic cemetery is next to the Greek Orthodox Strovolos cemetery. The area, which was given by the government of Cyprus, is about 4,000 square metres (bigger than the old Latin cemetery) and includes two small buildings (one with 3 toilets and the other for storage) and 53 trees which were planted more recently.
A team of volunteers from the parish of the Holy Cross are taking care of the cemetery on an ongoing basis.
There is a proposal to build a small chapel within the new Latin cemetery and to clear the ground further and plant more trees.
For more information about the cemeteries or if you would like to volunteer to help in caring for them you can contact Fr. Vito Gabriele Scagliuso, supervisor, or Alex Ploussiou, in charge of maintenance (tel: 99487320; email: firstname.lastname@example.org)
