The Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See (ie Vatican Embassy) in Cyprus has its headquarters in the Holy Cross Parish, in a wing of the Franciscan Friary.
The Nunciature hosted Pope Benedict XVI for his visit to the island in 2010, during which he delivered the “Working Document” later used for the Special Assembly for the Middle East Synod of Bishops, held in October 2010 .
Since August 30, 2012, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto has been the Apostolic Nuncio in Cyprus. This followed his appointment on August 18 as Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and Apostolic Delegate in Jerusalem and Palestine. He was previously Apostolic Nuncio in Australia.
He succeeds Archbishop Antonio Franco, who retired in June 2012.
