Christians in the East and the West often, but not always, find themselves celebrating Lent and Easter up to five weeks apart.
This is because of slight differences in calculating the date of Easter each year.
The Latin (and Maronite) Catholic Church in Cyprus follow the Orthodox method of determining the date of Easter, enabling all Christians in Cyprus to celebrate Easter on the same date.
This practice has been promulgated by the Latin Catholic Patriarch, our Bishop, for all the Diocese of Jerusalem, which includes Cyprus, starting this year.
Therefore in Cyprus for 2013, the date of Ash Wednesday will be March 20 (not February 13) and Easter Sunday will be May 5 (not March 31).
