It was not long ago that we took apart the nativity crib from our church and placed it together with the Christmas decorations inside the store room. Now very soon we will prepare ourselves for the most solemn celebrations of the liturgical year, the Holy Triduum and Easter. This year the difference between the calendars of the churches in the east and west is only one week, so for us living on this island who celebrate together with the Greek Orthodox Church, Lent will begin on 25th February and Easter Sunday will be on 12th April (see the next page).
However, before that happens we have other important days to celebrate. On the 2nd of February, the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple; the feast of all consecrated people, will be celebrated more solemnly in this year which is dedicated to the consecrated life. Let us also not forget those who are of advanced years and sick. I invite you from now to the special celebration on the 11th of February, the memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, when we pray for all sick and suffering members of the Church.
I hope that after the days of the carnival we will be ready to repent and come back to God from all the roads of our life which have taken us away from him and we will be able to purify ourselves in the desert and celebrate with a pure heart the Resurrection of our Lord.
