My arrival on the island of Cyprus, after thirty years of living in Jerusalem, marks a new stage in my service in the Custody of the Holy Land. As “a pilgrim” and witness of the Franciscan mission, I come to this blessed land of the Apostle Barnabas with joy and readiness to live and proclaim the Gospel.
I thank with all my heart Fr. Zacheusz our pastor, my Franciscan brothers and all members of the parish of the Holy Cross in Nicosia for their warm welcome and support. Our parish family is composed of many members of different origins, cultures and languages, but united in faith in Jesus Christ. All of us, pastors and parishioners, need to work together to spread the Kingdom of God and increase our personal sanctification.
When there is temptation to discouragement or attraction to things of this world, think about the words of the Letter to the Hebrews: “For here we do not have a lasting city, but we are seeking the city which is to come”. (Heb. 13:14)
