The Parish Council met on Saturday, 18 January 2014. The Agenda included the presentation and further consideration of the proposals made by the members concerning the Annual Plan of the Parish Council, the finalisation of the list of the movies chosen to be shown in the Movie Nights for the coming months, further information on the 2014 Holy Cross Calendar, the pilgrimage to Rome for and the live transmission at Holy Cross of the canonisation of Pope John Paul II on 27 April 2014 and discussion on the updates which are being made to Holy Cross Parish website.
Regarding the Annual Plan for 2014 the following proposals were briefly presented and further discussed: the introduction of a series on the Sacraments of the Church and healing masses in our Parish, the organisation of an official Holy Cross Parish lunch or dinner once a year, the introduction during Lent and Advent of weekly meditation/study sessions on the scripture readings of the following Sunday, the meetings with the youth, the stronger focus on evangelisation through various ministries in our Parish, the more active involvement of more parishioners at Holy Cross and further work regarding the development of a Parish Register. The Parish Council members then voted to set priorities concerning these proposals.
Regarding the pilgrimage to Rome for the canonization of the Pope John Paul II it was noted that there is a package already agreed which has been advertised and those interested needed to respond very soon. Also, that the proposal for the live broadcast of the event at Holy Cross was met with great enthusiasm and it was decided to look further into the details, especially the technical details, in order to enable the live broadcast on the day to be organised in our Parish.
Regarding the Holy Cross website the updates which have been made were noted and that the Executive Members of the Parish Council will be meeting to continue this work.
It was finally noted that some 2014 Holy Cross Calendars are still available for purchase and that, for February, the Movie Night will be on Friday, 7 February 2014, after the evening mass, to start at 7.30pm, with an inspirational movie, on the life of Esther, the Jewish girl who became Queen and her true test faith.
The Parish Council meeting closed with a reading from the Gospel, prayers and the blessing. We pray that the Risen Lord may always accompany us with His mercy and power and bless abundantly our work, our Parish, our priests and all God’s people, His Church, to witness Him strongly in our world today!
