On Saturday, 22 February 2014 the Parish Council met in Saint Francis Hall and all the members attended, with no apologies or absences! After the opening prayer, the proclamation of a psalm from the Book of Psalms, the previous month’s minutes were read and approved.
The results of the vote by the Parish Council members at the last meeting concerning the proposals for the Annual Plan of the Parish Council were then presented and the 2014 Annual Plan will include the following:
a series on the Sacraments of the Church, healing masses in our Parish, the organisation of an official Holy Cross Parish lunch and/or dinner, consideration of activities for deeper spiritual preparation/development during the seasons of Lent and Advent, the promotion of the meetings with the youth/teenagers which already started, the stronger focus on evangelisation activities through the various ministries in our Parish and other initiatives, the consideration of ways to increase the involvement of parishioners at Holy Cross in the work/mission of the Parish, the encouragement of more lectors/psalmists to serve at the Holy Cross, the development of the Parish Register, liaison with various groups serving at the Parish, such as the choir, the pilgrimage to Rome for the canonisation of Pope John Paul II on 27 April 2014 and its live transmission at Holy Cross.
The special activities for the season of Lent 2014 were then considered and will include, in addition to the planned recollection and confessions, a one day Pilgrimage for Lent for the whole Parish which, further to some discussion, it was decided to take place on Tuesday 1 April 2014 (a public holiday) to the Monastery of Our Lady of Machairas.
It was also noted that the Holy Cross website is now being further updated, following a meeting of the Executive Members of the Parish Council where they considered all the various proposals for updates previously made.
Regarding the pilgrimage to Rome for the canonization of the Pope John Paul II the Parish Council was informed that this is going ahead with the package already advertised and that the technical details for the live broadcast of the event at Holy Cross will be considered and resolved so that it can go ahead without a problem on 27 April 2014.
It was then noted that the Movie Night for March will be on Friday, 7 March 2014 at 7.30pm, after the evening mass, in Saint Francis Hall, with a film on the life of Saint Therese of Lisieux, one of the most popular saints of our time, also declared a Doctor of the Church.
The Parish Council meeting closed with a reading from the Gospel, prayers and the blessing. May the Risen Lord accompany us always with His mercy and power. May He bless abundantly our work, our Parish, our priests and all God’s people, His Church, to praise and witness Him strongly everyday!
