XPICTOC ANECTH once again! Christ is Risen, truly Risen! The Church celebrates its greatest feast not only on Easter Sunday and Monday, but, unlike the world around us, for 50 days, “a week of weeks”, until Pentecost Sunday and all of us who profess Christ Risen from the dead are called to live the Passover in our own lives and to celebrate it together! There is nothing greater, nothing higher and nothing more important for us to celebrate!
The Parish Council wishes wholeheartedly everyone in our Parish of the Holy Cross and beyond the deepest experience of this feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ; and most importantly, a personal, most intimate, life transforming meeting with the Risen Lord! It is in this spirit and with this true hope in this faith we profess that we continue our work in the Parish Council seeking the guidance of the Risen Lord.
On 1 April 2014 a one day Pilgrimage was organised for the whole Parish to the beautiful monastery of Our Lady of Machairas. We travelled through the Machairas forest through a truly wonderful route in two coaches, leaving Holy Cross at about 8 am. We prayed Lauds (morning prayer) together on the coaches and then stopped in the forest for a time of preaching and meditation as well as the opportunity for confessions for those who wanted. After our picnic lunch in the forest, we then continued on our way to the monastery by coach, stopping to pray the Way of the Cross on foot for the last part of the journey. An icon of Our Lady of Machairas was given to each pilgrim with the Way of the Cross stations and prayers. We were welcomed and guided through the monastery by the orthodox monks who also offered us refreshments. We prayed before the icon of Our Lady of Machairas and after some free time we returned to Holy Cross really happy by about
5.00 pm, for Adoration and the Holy Eucharist.
Going forward, the 2014 Annual Plan of the Parish Council includes many other items for us to experience and live together in our Parish of the Holy Cross.
The official Holy Cross Parish Lunch will take place on 25 May 2014, the last Sunday of May, and everyone is strongly encouraged to participate with their family and friends. More specific information and details about its organisation will be given soon.
The Movie Night for the month of May will be held on Friday 2 May 2014 at 7.30 pm, after the evening Mass, in Saint Francis Hall, with a great film on the life of Saint Philip Neri also known as the “Apostle of Rome”. Refreshments and snacks will be offered at the interval.
Once more, may the Risen Lord accompany us always with His mercy and power! May He bless abundantly our work, our Parish, our priests and all God’s people, His Church, to praise and witness to Him strongly every day in the light of His resurrection!
