APPOINTMENT OF MSGR MAURO LALLI – ARCHBISHOP & NUNCIO TO PAPUA NEW GUINEA

I am pleased to inform you that today at 12.00 in Rome, His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Mauro Lalli, currently Charge d’Affaires at our Nunciature in Cyprus, as Archbishop of Pausula and Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea.
We thank Monsignor Lalli for his precious so valuable service to our Church of Cyprus, which despite the short period, was marked by an incisive, fraternal presence and visible fruits.
Monsignor Mauro Lalli was born in Vasto, Italy on 17 September 1965. He obtained the baccalaureate in Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical Regional Seminary of Abbruzzi.
He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chieti -Vast on July 14, 1990. From 1990 to 1995 he was appointed parish priest and assistant professor of religion of the regional youth ministry. In 1995 he was sent to the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in preparation for diplomatic service. In 1999 he obtained a doctorate in Civil Law and Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University.
In his diplomatic service for the Holy See he served the Apostolic Nunciatures of Guatemala, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mozambique, Romania, Croatia, India, Jordan and currently in Cyprus.
