Parish Council News & Messages – Feb 2022
HOLY CROSS PARISH COUNCIL NEWS & MESSAGES – FEBRUARY 2022
First of all we offer our sincere condolences to the sisters of Saint Joseph for their sad loss with the passing to the Father of Sister Antonia John, on Friday 4 February 2022. We assure them and all her loved ones of our prayers for the repose of her soul and for the consolation they need in the faith. We thank the Lord also for her mission among us and for her service and valuable contribution to the work of the Holy Cross Parish Council too – see also below. May the Risen Lord reward her abundantly and embrace her with His mercy eternally with His saints in Heaven. [We have been informed that the funeral of Sister Antonia will be this Sunday, 6 February 2022, at 3pm in Larnaca, at Our Lady of Graces Latin Church.]
Below we also inform you a little and encourage you, to regularly use, the Holy Cross website ( at www.holy-cross-nicosia.com ), in order to benefit from the various items you can find on it. Just google it or type the website address of the Holy Cross website on your pc, laptop, tablet or smartphone browser to be taken to our website.
On the homepage of the website you can find news items, articles and the Parish Newsletter published every month. You can read it online or you can download it and print it, if you prefer to read and keep a hard copy of the newsletter.
On the right column of our website, you can also find the link to the “Daily Mass Readings”. Just by clicking on it, you are taken to the scripture readings used in the Holy Mass of the day, according to the Liturgical Calendar of the Church – so you can easily find them, read and meditate on them every day. Furthermore, just below the “Daily Mass Readings”, there is the “Divine Office” link and by clicking on it you are taken to the Office of Reading page from where you can pray daily the Divine Office, or choose other prayers to follow, like the morning or evening prayer of the Church, as well as some words about the saint or feast of the day.
Every month you can also find on the Holy Cross website an item entitled ”Life of a Saint”, with articles, videos and references to a different saint every month, to inspire us in our call to be true disciples of Jesus Christ. This month the “Life of a Saint” features the life of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes, whereas last month the saint featured was Saint Francis de Sales.
In addition, on the website of our parish, you can find information about the Mass Times at the Holy Cross as well as the contact details should you need them, and various other articles and presentations on different subjects. For example, you can find (by clicking on “Older Posts”) an article with full coverage of the visit of Pope Francis in Cyprus last December, with all the live broadcasts and simultaneous translations, in English as well as Greek.
We really hope everyone in our parish refers to and uses the Holy Cross website regularly, on their pc, laptop, smartphone and tablet too, to be informed and to benefit spiritually, as we also aim to enrich and develop it.
May the Lord in His mercy always be with us, our priests and religious, our families and every one in our parish, young and old alike. May He bless, protect and strengthen us with His Holy Spirit every moment of every day!

We unite our prayer for the repose of the soul of Sr. Antonia John S.J.A., who passed away last Friday in the Rest Home of Larnaca, Cyprus.
Sr. Antonia John was born in Sagaing (Myanmar) in 1925. She spent 75 years of her life in service of the Church, by teaching, opening various missions, establishing associations, and providing spiritual guidance to migrant workers, among other things. She lived in Cyprus for 30 years.
May she rest in peace and rise again in the glory of the Resurrection!
